
Lee N. Hammontree, M.D.
Dr. Hammontree is a graduate of Lipscomb University and a Native of Nashville. He obtained his medical degree in 1988 from The University of Tennessee, College of Medicine, Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Hammontree went on to complete an internship and residency in Urology at the University of Tennessee, Memphis.
Dr. Hammontree initially spent 8 years in private practice. During this period he led in introducing laparoscopic Urologic surgery to Alabama. He taught courses for other urologists and gynecologists in laparoscopic pelvic floor reconstruction. He has proctored numerous others in laparoscopic kidney surgery and has performed over 2000 complex laparoscopic procedures. Dr. Hammontree became a member of the faculty of the Division of Urology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2002. During this time he had a busy University practice and served as Chief of Urology at the Veterans Administration Hospital while training Urology residents and teaching medical students. He participated in clinical and NIH funded research and the fellowship program for female Urology and Urogynecology. He is published in several peer review journals and is a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Journal of Surgery and Urology.
In January of 2006, Dr. Hammontree returned to Urology Centers of Alabama, PC where he continues to offer excellence in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. He also is the first urologist in the region to offer cryosurgery for small kidney tumors and cryosurgery of the prostate. He remains a recognized expert in pelvic prolapse and other female urologic problems.
Dr. Hammontree’s interests include laparoscopic kidney surgery including nephrectomies, partial nephrectomies, ureteropelvic Junction (UPJ) repair, and cryoablation of kidney tumors. He also offers cryoablation of the prostate for prostate cancer, reconstructive surgery, and female urology including complex pelvic prolapse repair.
